Have agents complete online coursework for students
Students reportedly direct AI agents to log into Canvas and Blackboard to take quizzes, watch lectures, write papers and post in discussions.
Done with a custom-built or unnamed agent
- What they did
- Per Futurism's summary of a New York Times report, students tell an AI agent to log into Canvas or Blackboard as them. The agent runs in the background. It completes quizzes, watches lecture videos, writes papers, and posts in discussions as the student, who does something else meanwhile.
- How it went
- The NYT found ChatGPT, Gemini and Grammarly would not refuse to write a whole paper. None of the AI companies stop agents from logging into these platforms. Professors say they cannot stop it. The article gives no completion or grade figures.
- Worth knowing
- This is academic cheating. Professors are responding with in-person assessment, device bans, and ending honor-code exams, so it carries real misconduct risk.
Try it yourself with Claude Code
I have a [course name] course on [Canvas or Blackboard] and I want to see how my course materials could be better organized. Using [API token or exported course files], review the modules and list inconsistent names, missing due dates, and broken pages. You're done when you give me a summary table of suggested fixes; do not change or delete anything without showing me the exact changes and getting my approval first.
