Plan a birthday party with ChatGPT Agent
A Lifehacker writer gave ChatGPT Agent his party constraints and dates and asked for invites; he was impressed but too wary of mistakes to rely on it heavily.
Done withChatGPT Agent
- What they did
- In Agent mode on a paid ChatGPT plan, the writer gave it his age, the kind of party he wanted (quiet, low-key), the space (a small room next to a bar) and candidate dates. He also asked for invitations. It worked on its own virtual computer, and he could watch the feed or take over. It was a made-up project, not a real booking.
- How it went
- It found the local venues he would have picked and produced a comparison chart with booking contacts. The invitations were fine but generic. It couldn't open web PDFs, so booking details were hard to get.
- Worth knowing
- It takes a while, like Deep Research, so start it and do something else. That also means you can't check every step it takes.
Try it yourself with ChatGPT Agent
Help me plan a birthday party for [name] on one of these dates: [dates]. Constraints: [guest count, budget, location, dietary needs]. Check venue or caterer options, propose a plan, and draft an invitation for each guest in [guest list or contact source]. You're done when I have a recommended date, a shortlist, and ready-to-send invites. Pause and show me everything before sending any invite, booking, or payment.
