Pull Substack post stats via computer use
Charlie Hills has Codex Computer Use open his Substack dashboard and collect figures for every published post, for apps lacking MCP connectors.
Done withCodex
- What they did
- Charlie installed the Computer Use plugin in Codex, enabled it for the apps it needed, and granted Mac Screen Recording and Accessibility access. With his Substack dashboard open in Chrome, he prompted Codex to read the whole published-post list across all pages and save a dated report. The prompt told it to reconcile the post count against the dashboard total and not to change posts or touch subscriber details.
- How it went
- Codex found and saved 122 unique posts and checked the count against the dashboard. A rerun on 16 September read all five pages again, picked up the changed figures, and still showed 122 posts.
- Worth knowing
- The figures are lifetime totals, so older posts have had longer to collect results. Charlie says they show where to look but don't prove why a post worked.
Try it yourself with Codex
Use computer use to open my [Substack/other platform] dashboard and collect the stats for every published post: [metrics, e.g. title, date, views, open rate, new subscribers]. Put the results in a spreadsheet at [file path] sorted by [date or metric]. Finish with a short note on the top three and bottom three performers, and don't change anything in the dashboard.
