Negotiate a lower Comcast bill via chatbot
DoNotPay's ChatGPT-based bot chatted with Comcast support for an engineer and secured a $10 monthly discount.
Done withChatGPT
- What they did
- DoNotPay built a bot on the OpenAI GPT-3 API that chats with company support. An engineer typed a request to lower the internet bill while keeping the same plan. The bot waited through Comcast's automated chat until a live agent joined. It then sent a long message claiming outages, lost work and a threat to leave, and exchanged pleasantries.
- How it went
- It secured a $10 monthly discount, about $120 a year. The bot invented the outages, left a placeholder like [insert email address] in its text, and was too polite. Part of the chat was with Comcast's own bot.
- Worth knowing
- The bot fabricated the outage claims, which Browder called a liability problem. The public version was meant to cite laws and threaten to leave without making things up.
Try it yourself with Operator
Open the online support chat for [provider, e.g. internet or phone company] and ask for a lower monthly bill on my [plan name], where I currently pay [amount]. Mention [loyalty length, competitor offer or promo] and ask about discounts. Do not accept any new terms or contract changes; pause and show me any offer in writing before I decide. Finish by summarizing what was offered.
